New Beds & Irrigation at Hamilton Victory Garden’s Newest Hamilton Location

Henry VanHengstum, our Water Management Specialist, spent last Saturday helping build raised beds at Hamilton Victory Garden’s newest location in East Hamilton.

Described as an urban farm in the heart of the city, the McQuestern site is located at the corner of Melvin Avenue and Woodward Avenue. When complete it will include 112 victory garden beds and 30 community garden beds and is expected to produce an estimated 9,000 pounds of food for the community.

Volunteers meet at the McQuestern garden every Tuesday from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm, Thursday from 6:00 pm to dusk, and Saturday 9:00 am to 12:00 pm.

The Hamilton Victory Gardens is a non-profit team of community volunteers dedicated to alleviating hunger and food insecurity in our communities by transforming empty city lots into places of community, education and growth.

They currently have 12 garden sites, 350 volunteers and so far this year have harvested 17,330 pounds of produce for local food banks and hot meal programs.

Henry will be back next Monday to install the sprinklers.
