August Plant of the Month: Clematis ‘Jackmanii Superba’

Clematis Vines are a great way to add colour to a vertical accent or privacy screen. Jackmanii blooms from late July through the fall. They should be pruned back hard in early April to just about a good set of buds, usually around 30 cm.

Growing Conditions: Best in a rich, moist to average, well-drained soil in full sun. Protection from hot afternoon sun around its base it encouraged. Avoid planting near an area with reflective sun and heat like beside a driveway.

Size: 2-4m in height and spread

Hardiness: Zone 3

Where to Plant: Allow to climb up a trellis for privacy.

Plant Partners: Himalayan Birch, Hosta, Japanese Forest Grass, Jacob’s Ladder, Coral Bells

Designer’s Tip: The roots of this plant need to stay cool so plant a ground cover or dense perennial around it to regulate temperature and avoid direct sunlight its the base.
